About the course
Most conversations about anxiety begin with the question, “How do I get rid of it?” This course begins somewhere else. Before anxiety is a diagnosis, a disorder, a symptom, or a problem to solve, it is an experience. It appears in the body as tension, anticipation, vigilance, uncertainty, restlessness, and movement. It arrives before explanation. Anxiety, My Best Friend is a phenomenological course designed to help participants encounter anxiety directly, rather than immediately managing, avoiding, or interpreting it. Through a movement of Orientation, Encounter, Reflection, Integration, and Application, participants are invited to slow down and notice what anxiety is doing, how it is experienced, and what it may be attempting to communicate. This is not a course about eliminating anxiety.
Jeffrey Hosick, PhD
Jeffrey Hosick, PhD I am a psychotherapist, educator, volunteer firefighter, and researcher with a lifelong interest in how people make meaning of their experiences. Much of my work focuses on helping people explore the relationship between perception, emotion, assumptions, and awareness. Rather than beginning with diagnosis or correction, I am interested in what can be learned by paying careful attention to experience as it unfolds. My background includes mental health practice, organizational consulting, crisis response, public education, and doctoral research in workplace psychology. Across these fields, one theme continues to emerge: people often discover something important when they become curious about experiences they have spent years trying to avoid. This course is an invitation to that curiosity.

What people are saying
Each course begins with a gathering who form a research and development team for this project.
Anxiety touches each of us at some point, gripping our hearts with a fierce hold. But when we truly learn to understand it and equip ourselves with the right tools, it transforms from a relentless enemy into a powerful alert—something that awakens us rather than destroys us. It’s taken me years of struggle, of feeling engulfed by that overwhelming rush in my body, to even begin to grasp what’s really happening. I haven’t mastered it yet, but I refuse to let it control me. Instead, I lean into these moments, these workshops, as a way to go deeper—using anxiety as a compass, not a curse. Yes, it takes practice, but what a precious gift it is—to finally live in the present, free from the shadows of worry about what’s yet to come.

The whole concept is that anxiety is my friend. Totally new and very helpful way of looking at it. Jeff's voice is very reassuring, and slowing down my experience was really helpful to me.

The combination of the video and Jeff’s verbal guidance is perfectly paired like. Great wine and specific cheese. Definitely a course to be savoured.

You don't have to suffer from crippling anxiety to benefit from this workshop! The unique perspective Jeff brings to the anxiety experience will benefit everyone. I came with curiosity and was so pleased to see how much I learned!
Vet Clinic Manager (Retired)
I found the group experience slow; only one or two of the participants had insights that felt relevant or made me think, and I was a little impatient (which may say more about me than the process itself). I think I would prefer a single viewer situation overall, but there should be a caveat that a quick run through won't likely deliver the results you get when you slow down and give yourself time to process. I learned a lot!
